Current ASSIST Scholars Meet in Washington DC-area

May 26, 2016

On April 3, 2016, Washington DC-area ASSIST Scholars, their host families and school colleagues gathered at the beautiful, former residence of the Spanish Ambassador in Washington for a spring celebration of the students’ ASSIST year. Attendees mingled in the Spanish-tiled courtyard, nibbled on Spanish tapas, and were treated to a composite slide show of photos from the twenty-three Scholars’ ASSIST year.

The formal program began with a welcome from Maria José Fabre González, Education Counselor for the USA and Canada, who stressed to the audience of nearly sixty the importance of educational exchange and collaboration.  Student speakers – Svenja Nitschke (Germany, St. Timothy’s School), Oyku Turkogullari (Turkey, St. Timothy’s School), Ani Nguyen (Hungary, The Potomac School), and Iñigo Arizón Ribó (Spain, Woodberry Forest School) – paid tribute to their host families and to their schools and thanked the Embassy for their hospitality.  ASSIST president Bob Stanley closed the program with a call to the students to finish their year strongly and to remember the special people in the DC area who
made their year possible.
