General Information

Assist host familyWe welcome both current and prospective host families to this special page on the ASSIST web site. The generosity of our host families has touched generations of ASSIST students, many of whom are still in close contact with their American hosts.

ASSIST scholars in day schools live with host families full time, while students in boarding schools enjoy time in American homes on weekends and during the holidays. As all host families are volunteers, we are most grateful for the love and care that have been offered to our students.

If you are considering hosting an ASSIST student, we welcome your interest! Families should contact the ASSIST Representative at their school (all host families are affiliated with and are selected by ASSIST member schools).

To help you begin to learn about the opportunity, we suggest you read the appropriate handbook:

What Host Families are saying:
“What one receives has a great deal to do with what one invests. We put a whole lot into the relationship with our host student and we got back more than we imagined possible.”

"ASSIST students are well prepared for their experience of a school year away from home.  Every ASSIST student we have met is smart; is fluent in English; is self-confident; is emotionally mature enough to last ten months away from home; is out-going and is willing to adapt to different cultural norms large and small.  It appears you do a tremendous job of screening and selecting candidates."
